Country Horses WA

Agistment

There is very little agistment in town. Most people have horses on their own blocks. Yes, there are horsey properties around but nothing really set up properly bar a couple. To get your horses in anywhere it really is a case of not what you know but who or buy a place with land. Prices range from 500k for bush block of 5 acres to 750k with fencing and lots of mangoes for shade. The best people to contact is the Derby Rodeo and Horseriders Assoc. Current president is Cathy Brockhurst.

Stockfeed & Equipment

Derby Stock Supplies are the only feed store and should also be able to help out with relevent info. People also frieght in their own feed.

Health

No resident vet in town but they have a clinic here open every Wed and Thurs mornings. They come up from Broome and there is no specialized horse vet.

Trail Riding

There is no show scene just the once a year rodeo & campdraft. The local rodeo club does try and run gymkhanas through the year but they aren't taken seriously and the kids get ribbons at the end of the year, very laidback club. Hopefully this year we may be able to get them to put some schools on. There is no beach but you can ride on the marsh when it is dry and there are lots of trails through the bush.
