Mainly in the "horse-designated" area in Piccadilly Street (Kal). There are a couple of agistment businesses in Piccadilly Street plus some private stables in the area which may be available for agistment from time to time. There are other agistment facilities available, although these are further out of town and do not have the convenience of this area, as it is only a ten minute stroll on horse back to the Goldfields Equestrian Centre through the bush from any of the agistment centres on Piccadilly St.
The GEC has great facilities, including an all-weather dressage arena, a great cross country course that caters for all grades of horses and riders, a grassed oval, safe horse yards etc. There is a yearly fee of $100 that is charged if riders wish to ride on the GEC, which is very reasonable and equates to only $2 per week for top facilities.
The Kalgoorlie District Pony Club operates from the GEC and has a membership of around 35 members and is a strong club. The KDPC runs the Golden Nugget One Day Event in July of each year, which attracts riders from all over the State wishing to win a gold nugget! The KDPC also conducts an ODE in April. There are also several official horse shows conducted throughout the riding season (March to November each year).
There is also an Adult Riding Club, which also operates from the GEC and has monthly rallies. Flat work and jumping clinics with visiting instructors from the Perth area are also held regularly at the GEC.
These exist mainly in the bush area surrounding the GEC and run for may kilometres through a pleasant bush area, complete with resident kangaroos!
Horse racing (Thoroughbreds) is very strong in Kal-Boulder, especially during the famous "Race Round". Standardbred racing is also quite strong locally and again the annual "Race Round" attracts a good standard of pacing.
During non-Race Round times, there are weekly racing and pacing meetings conducted during each club's respective seasons.
There are two vet clinics in Kal-Boulder, one on Boulder Road (ph: 08 9021 3965) and one on Hannan Street (ph: 08 9021 6000).
Drive Thru Grain & Fodder on Lane Street (Kal) and Kalgoorlie Farmers, Hay St, Kal (not that part of Hay Street!!). Both businesses also sell other animal feeds (dogs, cats, rabbit etc) although Kalgoorlie Farmers (ph: 9021 1921) does deal pretty extensively in horse equipment as well.
